Welcome to Elkesley Primary and Nursery School PTFA

What does PTFA mean?

Parents, Teachers and Friends Association. All parents and guardians of children who attend Elkesley School are automatically members. This enables you to attend all fund raising events the PTFA hold and become a member of the PTFA committee, if you wish. It’ a great way of making new friends and having fun too!

What does the PTFA do?

Primarily we raise extra funds for the school, for example we have raised funds to purchase a Data Projector for the school, pay towards transport for school trips, and the list goes on. But it is much more than just fund raising. The PTFA exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

PTFA Meetings

The committee usually meets once a month to discuss the fund raising events past, present and future. All meetings are open to every PTFA member – that’s you and every parent/guardian of Elkesley School. Meetings are always a social event.

Our Fund Raising Calendar

As a committee we hold many fund raising events during the school academic year. For example, Christmas and Summer Fayre, Harvest Festival produce sale, cake sales, to name but a few of our successful events.

How does the money raised get spent?

Very quickly! Once money is raised from events the funds are banked straight away. It is at our PTFA committee meetings that the decisions on how to spend money are taken. The PTFA get a ‘wish’ or ‘shopping’ list from the Head Teacher of items that the school would like to purchase. PTFA funds are for the ‘extras’ not provided by the school budget, that makes our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. PTFA funds are not generally spent on improving the fabric of the school building.

How can you get involved?

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PTFA. Offering to help before events, or at other times during the year is so valuable – it really is a case of ‘many hands make light work’. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even it you can’t come into school. There are always little jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare e.g. wrapping gifts from Santa, preparing raffle tickets etc. We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the unseen ‘army of help’ that exists in school. You can of course volunteer to be a Committee Member.
